Sunday 30-Nov: Helen, John and Nigel romped to victory in the 2nd LPA Winter Triples at the Oakham RFC's new state-of-the-art venue at the north end of Lands End Way. MVP on the day was undoubtedly Helen with her consistent pointing. Rosie and Lyndon joined up with Pat and Iris to take two notable scalps (See full report on the LPA's Blogsite)

The Dream Fades

Sun 23 Nov - On a thoroughly wet Sunday at Luton Petanque Club in Stopsley, the Panthers had their big day in the last 16 of the EPA Club competition
A virtual demolition of the Rayne Swan PC (Eastern Region) by 4-1 was followed by the narrowest of 2-3 defeats to Baldock PC (Chiltern Region) when victory would have virtually assured us of a place in the last 4. Helen, Tony and John shone on the day, taking some notable 'scalps' and, with a bit more from the rest of us, Panthers could have been one step away from 'Europe.' With little at stake in the last round we managed only a 1-4 defeat to the Railway PC (Kent) who had earlier surprisingly surrendered 0-5 to Baldock
Our thanks go to the Luton PC for hosting the event and, in particular, to Neil Stevenson of Chiltern Region for cheerfully umpiring in miserable conditions

Panthers join Dovecote in last 16

By defeating Mansfield 5 - 0 in the 3rd round of the EPA Club Competiton Rutland Panthers advance to the 'semi final' stage in which 16 clubs compete in round robin groups of four at four different venues. The four winners then meet in a Final play off for the opportunity to represent England in the CEP European Cup

Mansfield is the largest pétanque club in the East Midlands with facilities, organisation and a welcome to match. Their hospitality included hot drinks throughout and a hot meal in their well appointed clubhouse
